Growing your TikTok following may seem challenging, but with the right approach, you can reach 1,000 followers quickly. By using popular hashtags, joining trends, and posting consistently, you can boost your visibility.
Engaging with your audience, collaborating with others, and creating relatable content will help attract more followers. With some effort and creativity, you can grow your TikTok presence and hit your follower goals.
Here I have shared my own strategies that I have used to get the first 1000 followers on TikTok.
Why Is Hitting 1,000 Followers Important On TikTok?
Hitting 1000 followers opens the door to several great opportunities for growth on TikTok. Here’s what this feat will mean for you in the practical sense:
- Enhanced Reach: Obviously, hitting 1000 followers means you are officially a micro-influencer and on the path to becoming a macro-influencer. In other words, more views and discoverability!
- TikTok LIVE: If you are 18 or older and have 1000 followers, TikTok lets you host live streams with your followers. Live streams not only let you connect with your followers but also get access to donations and LIVE gifts.
- Links in your bio: Until you cross 1000 followers, you can add links in your bio only if you have a business account. But once you cross this milestone, you can add links from your Personal Creator Account without restrictions.
Let’s get into the proven practices to help you unlock the above benefits.

If you are unfamiliar with any or all of these methods, don’t worry! I will guide you through each method. So, without further ado, let’s start with the basics.
1. Optimize Your TikTok Profile
Your TikTok profile should tell potential followers what they can expect from you. For that to happen, your profile must be well-optimized.
A stunning profile picture and a memorable username make a profile attractive. Meanwhile, the bio should be within 80 characters yet effectively convey what users can expect from your content.
Notice how this profile checks the three points I just mentioned. It contains a catchy username and profile picture, while the bio is crisp yet effective.
2. Create High-Quality & Relatable Content
According to this Adobe study, most users prefer tutorial videos. Another study found that 60% of users want to watch funny content. With such differing opinions, how can you decide which content to post?
It’s simple. Pick a niche, understand your target audience, and create relatable content. Experiment with different kinds of content—funny, DIY tips, lip-sync videos, or whatever works for you. The key is finding the sweet spot your audience enjoys the most.
3. Utilize Hashtags And Captions
If your TikTok video is a pizza, hashtags are the toppings. Hashtags can boost your video’s reach and increase the chances of more relevant viewers seeing it.
Whenever you create a video, research the currently trending hashtags in your niche and add them to your captions. However, make sure that the hashtags are not generic but rather specific and relevant to the video, like this:
Similarly, craft an engaging caption for the video. You can also ask an intriguing or humorous question to encourage user interaction.
4. Use Trending Audio In Your Video
It’s no secret that audio is the soul of every TikTok trend. Therefore, including trending music in your video is one great way to become part of trends and let more people find you.
You can find trending audio by entering “trending sounds” in the search bar and going to the Sounds section of the search results. Or, you can directly go to the TikTok Creative Center to find the latest trending songs in your country.
5. Develop Your Brand Style Or Aesthetic
While it’s not essential, having a uniform brand style across all your videos can make you stand out. This can include anything from visual effects like filters, fonts, and logos to signature content or style that defines you and your content.
A great example of a unique brand style is Khaby Lame’s content. In the end, his satire, deadpan expressions, and signature hand gestures make his content unique.
6. Find The Right Time to Post on TikTok
One of the best ways to maximize your videos’ views and engagements is to post when your target audience is most active. However, this ideal time depends on several factors.
According to a Sprout Social report, 2-5 PM works best on most days, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays being the hottest days of the week. On the contrary, Sunday is the day of least activity.
That said, you should experiment with posting at different times to understand when your audience is online.
7. Do Challenges Videos (Trending)
Challenges should be your thing if you wish to reach 1000 followers and grow fast on TikTok. Participating in trending challenges can give your new account the traction it needs. So, jump onto new challenges and create videos by blending the challenges with your niche.
The more trending challenges you partake in, the more likely your videos appear on the For You page. Make sure to top it off by adding trending hashtags.
8. Engage With The Other Creators
Here’s a great hack to grow on TikTok without creating content. Instead, engage with others’ content! Yes, this is one sure-fire way to attract more followers to your account steadily.
When you consistently like or comment on another creator’s videos, the algorithm is more likely to recommend your videos to that creator’s followers. Similarly, if you reshare a popular creator’s videos from your account, you will directly put yourself before their followers. This will indirectly boost the discoverability of your videos!
9. Engage With Your Audience
Engaging with other creators is a good practice, but engaging with your audience is an indispensable factor of growth on every social network. So, reply to their comments, respond to their DMs, engage in conversations, and listen to their feedback.
That’s not all. You can also host LIVE streams and Q&A sessions to talk to your followers in real-time. All these little steps help you build a genuine connection with your audience.
10. Collaborate With Other Creators
Collaborations are among the most interesting ways to enhance your reach on the platform, especially when starting out. You can contact popular creators you regularly engage with and ask them if they are up for a collab—for example, a due or trending challenge.
When you collaborate with another creator, you get the attention of their followers. This way, you not only widen your audience base but also increase the chances of more users (the collaborator’s followers) following you.
TIP: Don’t forget to tag the collaborator and make them tag you in the collab video!
11. Cross-promote on Other Social Media Platforms
The task of growing on TikTok does not end within TikTok. If you want a presence that spreads far and wide, you must cross-promote yourself on other platforms.
Shared a great TikTok video? Share it across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms. Want your followers and friends to watch your TikTok content? Add your TikTok username and profile link to your Instagram and Twitter bios and Facebook About section. Spread the word on every platform you are active on!
This can be a great way to multiply your reach and hit that 1000 followers on TikTok.
12. Use TikTok Ads To Promote Your Videos
If you are serious about growing fast on TikTok and have some money to shell out, TikTok’s Promote feature is for you. The feature is an advertising tool that lets you show your videos as ads to TikTok users.
To Promote A Video:
- Open the video, tap the three dots in the bottom right, and select Promote.
- Choose a promotion goal (website visits, views, or followers).
- Select your audience preferences, budget, and duration.
- Make the payment and hit Start Promotion.

13. Consistency Is Key
You can be all pumped up in the beginning. But you cannot expect to grow if you fail to keep up and maintain your video’s quality, posting frequency, and engagement strategy in the long run.
A great way to be consistent is to create a posting and engaging schedule and stick to it. This way, you know when to post videos, reply to comments, and when to be away. Besides helping you be consistent, this practice will maintain your peace of mind!
14. Use Analytics and A/B Test
It’s important to keep track of your videos’ performance, and TikTok helps you do that with its Analytics tools. This feature is present in the Creator Tools section of your Settings & Privacy screen.
You can also tap the view count below each video to view its analytics data. Try experimenting with A/B testing by uploading two slightly different versions of the same video—for example, two DIY videos with and without a voiceover— and seeing which one performs better.

Reaching 1000 followers establishes your presence as a budding creator and unlocks some great opportunities to earn and grow more on TikTok. Achieving this feat requires effort, which includes optimizing the profile, creating great content, engaging with your audience, and collaborating with fellow creators, among other practices I told you about.
